Privacy Policy
Okane Software LLC (“Okane”, “we”, “us”) provides Okane Budget for iOS and Android and the okane.finance website. This policy explains the information we process, why we process it, who receives it, and your choices. Contact us at mike.from.okane@gmail.com.
Your budget spreadsheet
Your connected budget spreadsheet is stored in your own Google Drive. Okane accesses Google Sheets and Drive data to create or connect a spreadsheet and read and write your budget. The app also keeps budget data and preferences on your device to support its features and synchronization.
Deleting your Okane account or requesting deletion of data held by Okane does not delete your Google spreadsheet or your Google account. You can keep using your spreadsheet without Okane. You control its sharing and can delete it yourself in Google Drive.
Using your own spreadsheet does not mean that Okane processes only your email address. Account services, analytics, and optional features process additional information as described below. Collection depends on the features you use, your platform, app version, and permissions.
Information we process and why
- Sign-in and account information: Firebase Authentication processes an account identifier and information supplied by your sign-in provider, which can include your email, name, profile image, and provider identifiers. Authentication services also process technical and security information such as IP addresses, device/browser information, and sign-in activity. We use this information to authenticate you and protect accounts. Okane does not receive your Google or Apple password.
- Service records: Our backend uses Google Cloud and Supabase to support account-linked features. Records can include account identifiers, subscription status and purchase identifiers, notification tokens, and referral activity. Referral records can include identifiers, reward history, and IP information used to administer rewards and prevent abuse. A free account does not necessarily use all these services.
- Budget information: The app reads and writes categories, amounts, transactions, savings, bills, and related spreadsheet information to provide budgeting features. Data is also cached locally. Optional bank-connected features involve additional server processing described below.
- Usage analytics: Google Analytics for Firebase receives app events such as screen views, button interactions, onboarding answers, and acquisition-source information, along with app-instance/device identifiers and technical information. We use these to understand usage and improve Okane. These identifiers are not necessarily anonymous, even when they do not contain your email address.
- Advertising measurement: Supported app versions use the Meta/Facebook SDK to measure installations, app sessions, and subscription purchases and assess our advertising campaigns. Meta may receive app/device identifiers, technical information, and event details such as product, purchase amount, and currency. Advertising-identifier availability depends on your device permissions and settings.
- Diagnostics and support: We process service logs, error information, and messages or attachments you choose to send us. Depending on the app version, diagnostic services may include Firebase Crashlytics. Please avoid sending bank credentials or unnecessary financial details in support messages.
- Website information: Our website uses Google Analytics and its cookies or similar identifiers to measure visits and interactions. Website hosting and analytics providers also process technical request information, such as IP addresses and browser information.
Optional bank and AI features
If you connect a bank through Plaid, Okane processes connection tokens, institution and account information, balances, and transaction data to provide bank sync and related features. Our backend may retain pending transactions, recurring-transaction information, net-worth history, and identifiers used to prevent duplicate imports. Confirming an imported transaction does not mean that every related bank record is immediately erased. Okane receives a connection token rather than your bank login credentials.
On-device transaction categorization and optional receipt scanning are different features. On-device categorization runs locally. When you use receipt scanning, the receipt image and supporting information, such as categories, are sent through our backend to Google’s AI service for extraction. Our receipt-processing code is designed to process and discard the image rather than save it in a receipt archive. Provider processing is governed by the applicable Google service terms.
Providers and disclosures
We use providers to operate and improve Okane, process purchases, and measure advertising. Relevant providers include:
- Google and Firebase for authentication, analytics, notifications, and applicable diagnostics; Google Cloud for backend hosting and applicable AI processing; and Google Sheets/Drive for your spreadsheet.
- Supabase for backend data storage.
- Plaid if you connect financial accounts.
- Apple and Google Play for platform services and purchases.
- Meta for the advertising measurement described above.
- Netlify for website hosting.
We do not sell your budget spreadsheet or bank transaction data to data brokers. We do disclose information to providers as described in this policy. Advertising-related disclosures may be treated as a “sale” or “sharing” under some privacy laws even where no money is exchanged for the information. You can contact us to exercise applicable rights concerning those disclosures.
We may also disclose information where required by law or necessary to protect rights, investigate abuse, or resolve disputes. Providers may process information outside your country. Applicable contractual and legal safeguards govern those transfers.
Google user data
Okane’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. We access Google user data to provide the connected budgeting features you use. We do not use Google Sheets or Drive data for advertising or transfer it to advertising platforms. Human access to that data is limited to circumstances allowed by the policy, such as support you authorize, security needs, or legal requirements.
Retention and deletion
We retain personal information for the purposes described here while it is needed to provide the features you use, handle your requests, and satisfy applicable legal obligations. Relevant criteria include whether your account or feature remains active, whether a support issue is unresolved, and whether a specific security, fraud, accounting, or legal need remains.
When you request deletion, we review information associated with your account and delete it from our active systems, or arrange its deletion with relevant providers, except where a specific lawful retention exception applies. Exceptions may include limited purchase records required by law, records needed for legal claims, proportionate security or referral-abuse records, and a minimal record of the deletion request and our response. Retained identifiers are not automatically anonymous. We explain applicable exceptions when responding and retain information only for the relevant purpose and necessary period.
Deletion from active systems and provider backups can complete at different times. For example, Firebase documents that authentication information is removed from live and backup systems within 180 days after customer-initiated deletion. That is a provider removal period, not our deadline for responding to you. Backup copies awaiting expiry must not be returned to ordinary use without applying the deletion again. Statistics that no longer identify you may remain.
There is no single retention period covering every provider and data category. You can ask us for the retention information applicable to your request. We will explain any additional processing time or information that cannot be removed, and the reason.
Request deletion or exercise your rights
Free and paid users can request deletion. Visit Delete account and data or email mike.from.okane@gmail.com. You do not need to reinstall the app, buy a subscription, use legal terminology, or supply your spreadsheet to make a request.
Send your request from the email associated with Okane if possible. If we need to verify ownership or locate a record, we will request only information reasonably necessary for that purpose. Do not send your password. You can request all account-associated personal data to be deleted or identify a narrower request. Removing the information needed to operate your account also ends your access to that account.
We respond without undue delay and within the period required by applicable law. Depending on your location and applicable law, you may also have rights to access, correct, receive a copy of, restrict, or object to processing of your information; withdraw consent; or opt out of certain advertising-related disclosures. You may complain to your local privacy regulator. Where applicable, you may appeal a decision by replying to our response and asking for a review. We do not discriminate against you for exercising applicable privacy rights.
You can remove Okane’s Google access in Google Account connections. Revoking access alone does not delete information previously received by Okane. Device settings control available notification and advertising permissions. Removing the app or clearing its local storage can remove local data, but does not by itself delete server-side records or necessarily remove device/cloud backups. Contact us for help with deletion on your platform.
Account deletion is separate from subscription cancellation. If you have a subscription, manage cancellation through the App Store or Google Play to avoid future charges. Having a subscription does not prevent you from requesting immediate account deletion.
Security
We use authentication, access controls, and encrypted connections to protect information. No storage or transmission system can be guaranteed completely secure. Report security concerns to mike.from.okane@gmail.com.
Children
Okane is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information, contact us so we can investigate and take appropriate action.
Changes to this policy
We post changes on this page and update the date above. Where required, we provide additional notice and obtain consent before introducing a new use of information. An update to this policy does not replace any consent required by law or platform rules.
